Bible Story: David Is Anointed King
Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:1–13
Memory Verse:
What We Learned This Week
This week, kids learned how God chose David to be the next king of Israel. When Samuel went to Jesse’s house, he thought the older, stronger sons looked like kings. But God reminded Samuel that He doesn’t choose people based on what they look like on the outside. God looks at the heart. Even though David was young and working as a shepherd, God saw a heart that loved Him and chose David to be king.
Big Idea: God sees what’s in our heart, so we should seek to be beautiful on the inside.

“Humans do not see what the Lord sees, for humans see what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.”

Talk About It (Ask Your Child)
- Why do you think God chose David instead of his bigger or stronger brothers?
(Help your child see that God cares about our hearts, not just our appearance or abilities.) - What are some things that help make a “beautiful heart” that pleases God?
(Examples: love, kindness, patience, obedience, self-control.)
Live It Out This Week
- Take a moment each day to talk about one heart attitude your family wants to grow (like kindness or patience).
- Pray together, asking God to help your hearts look more like His.
